Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
