Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
