The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
