The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
