He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
