He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
