Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
