The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 in which you are now living 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
