Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you call?" 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 nor a loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
