And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
