Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
