The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
