Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
