Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed. 29 Or do they say: "[He is but] a poet - let us wait what time will do unto him"? 30 Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.' 31 Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say: "He has fabricated it?" In fact, they will never believe. 33 (If they are truthful in this), then let them produce a discourse of similar splendour. 34 Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing! 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Or has He daughters while you have sons? 39 Or do you ask them for a reward, so that they are over-burdened by debt? 40 Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down? 41 Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared! 42 Do they have any god other than Allah? Exalted be Allah above whatever they associate (with Him in His Divinity). 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from the sky they would say: 'A massed cloud' 44 Therefore leave them, until they confront their day, in which they will be stunned. 45 A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped. 46 And surely those who are unjust shall have a punishment besides that (in the world), but most of them do not know. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest, 48 And in the night, give Him glory too, and at the setting of the stars. 49
