And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Has the [Divine] message been revealed to him alone of all of us? No, he is a boastful liar." 25 (To him We said): 'Tomorrow they shall know who is the arrogant liar. 26 For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience! 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And he [Lout (Lot)] indeed had warned them of Our Grasp, but they did doubt the warnings! 36 They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." 37 And at daybreak a determined punishment came upon them. 38 Now taste My punishment after My warnings! 39 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 40
