He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
