He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
