The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 who guard their privates 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
