The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
