Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Reality - 1 What is the Inevitable Calamity? 2 Would that you knew (in detail) what the Inevitable is! 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the awful cry! 5 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 And Firaun, and those before him, and the dwellings that were inverted and thrown, had brought error. 9 And they disobeyed the Apostle of their Lord, so He punished them with a vehement punishment. 10 And when the waters rose (high) We carried you in the sailing (Ark), 11 making it a Reminder for you, for all attentive ears to retain. 12 Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, 13 And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. 14 On that day, the inevitable event will take place 15 And the heaven will split asunder so on that day it will be unstable. 16 And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them. 17 The Day whereon ye shall be mustered nothing hidden by you shall be hidden. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Surely, I knew that I should meet my reckoning," 20 So he shall be in a life of pleasure, 21 In a Garden on high, 22 The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. 23 [And all who are thus blest will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer in return for all [the good deeds] that you have sent ahead in days gone by!" 24 But, he who is given his book in his left hand will say: 'Woe to me, would that my book had not been given to me! 25 and neither known this my account! 26 Would that death had taken us away for good. 27 My wealth has not availed me. 28 Gone from me is my authority." 29 The angels will be told, "Seize and chain them, 30 Then cast him into the burning fire, 31 “Then bind him inside a chain which is seventy arm-lengths.” 32 they did not believe in the great God, 33 and did not feel any urge to feed the needy: 34 Today he has been left here friendless; 35 Nor any food except refuse, 36 None will eat except the Khati'un (sinners, disbelievers, polytheists, etc.). 37
