When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 We have come to thee with the truth, and assuredly we speak truly. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By your life! they were blindly wandering on in their intoxication. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
