The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
