The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. 25
