Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
