As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 Devils divert men from the [right] way, while they think that they are rightly guided. 37 And when he comes before Us, he shall say: 'Would that there had been between me and you, the distance of the two Easts' Evil is the companion. 38 On that Day it will not profit you in the least [to know] that, since you have sinned [together,] you are now to share your suffering [as well]. 39 Wherefore canst thou make the deaf to hear, or canst thou guide the blind or him who is is error manifest? 40 Even if We take you away from the world, We shall surely take vengeance on them 41 Or (if) We show you that wherewith We threaten them, then verily, We have perfect command over them. 42 So hold fast to all that has been revealed to thee: for, behold, thou art on a straight way; 43 it is certainly a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be called to account. 44 You can ask Our Messengers whom We sent before you if We had commanded them to worship other gods besides the Beneficent God?" 45
