The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
