Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 and the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
