Therefor warn (men, O Muhammad). By the grace of Allah thou art neither soothsayer nor madman. 29 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time. 30 Say: 'Wait if you will; I shall be waiting with you' 31 Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people? 32 Do they say: 'He has invented it' No, they do not believe. 33 Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth! 34 Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty. 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! 38 Or hath He daughters whereas ye have sons? 39 Or askest thou them for a wage, and so they are weighed down with debt? 40 Or [do they think] that the hidden reality [of all that exists] is almost within their grasp, so that [in time] they can write it down? 41 Or, do they desire to outwit? The unbelievers are the outwitted. 42 Have they, then, any deity other than God? Utterly remote is God, in His limitless glory, from anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity! 43 And if they should see a fragment of the heaven falling down, they would say: it is only clouds piled up. 44 So leave them till they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck. 45 The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be helped. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise. 48 And in the night also hallow Him, and at the setting of the stars. 49
