The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
