Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
