The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Save worshippers. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
