The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And accepts the best, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
