In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the winds (or angels or the Messengers of Allah) sent forth one after another. 1 By the raging hurricanes, 2 by the scatterers scattering 3 By those who winnow with a winnowing, 4 Then spread abroad a Message, 5 To complete the argument or to warn. 6 that whatever with which you have been warned will inevitably come to pass. 7 So when the lights of the stars are put out. 8 and when the sky is rent asunder 9 The mountains will be blown away as dust. 10 and when the messengers are brought together at the appointed time -- 11 To which Day has this task been deferred? 12 For the Day of Sorting out. 13 And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out? 14 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 15 Did We not destroy many a nation of the earlier times? 16 Then did We follow them up with later ones. 17 Thus do We deal with men of sin. 18 Woe, that Day, to the deniers. 19 Did We not create you from a base fluid 20 Which We laid up in a safe abode 21 Till a limit known? 22 We determined, how excellent a Determiner are We! 23 Woe on that day unto the beliers! 24 Have We not caused the earth to hold within itself 25 for the living and the dead, 26 And We placed high mountains as anchors in it and gave you sweet water to drink. 27 Woe on that day to the rejecters. 28 Depart to that you cried was lies! 29 "Depart you to a shadow (of Hell-fire smoke ascending) in three columns, 30 [But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame." 31 and throwing up sparks as huge as towers 32 and yellow camels. 33 Woe on that Day to those who belied it! 34 This is a Day they will not speak, 35 And permission shall not be given to them so that they should offer excuses. 36 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies! 37 that Day of Distinction [between the true and the false, when they will be told]: "We have brought you together with those [sinners] of olden times; 38 So if you have any ploy, try it against Me! 39 Woe on that Day to those who belied it! 40
