The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 May he be condemned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
