Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
