۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Are we not then to die 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
