He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 You neglect. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
