The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Blackening the skins. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
