The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 The others suggested holding Moses and his brother off and sending to all the cities 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
