Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And cups put in place 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
