The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
