The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
