The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
