And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 Allah said: verily then thou art of the respited: 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
