He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
