The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
