Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 into My Paradise. 30
