The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
