The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruits numberless, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
