The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
