Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 an orphaned relative 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
